Are you already into a Japanese learning course and finding the going too tough? Or probably you have not yet taken up learning the Japanese language though you want to because you think the going will be too tough! Japanese is a totally different language from the English related languages and it has a humongous number of letters… about 2000 even after several reductions from the original 5000. With so many problems, sure the Japanese language is going to prove a troublesome one to tackle.< ?xml:namespace prefix ="" o />
But, if you are finding Japanese to be too troublesome, you do probably not understand the true meaning of the language at all. Remember that Japanese is not English or such related languages that have a very short alphabet but a large range of words. You can say that it is the opposite way in Japanese – a large alphabet but fewer words. It is absolutely not necessary to read the entire kanji script in its modern version. Children pass through their school learning less than 900 of this kanji script. So chin up! There's no need to master this script, but only pay great attention to the sounds of the language. Try to listen to what other people are speaking in that language. This is very important if you want to learn the sounds in the right way.
It is very important that the Japanese language learning problems should not cow you down. For all its script and all, Japanese is not a very voluminous language in terms of its vocabulary. Japanese people hardly use a lot of words; their focus is on the sounds that the words produce. Hence, if you want to learn Japanese, do it in the way they natively learnt when they were kids.
And the key is, first you must psyche yourself by saying repeatedly, 'Japanese is good, Japanese is simple. I will master it.' This helps you going along even if you find Japanese is very tough to comprehend and learn.
Try learning as many new words as you can. Now, this is something about Japanese that you should know – when you are learning Japanese, it is not advisable to pay attention to each and every word that is being spoken. Your focus should be rather on the essence of the whole sentence and not on original verbiage. After all, you are not going to use Japanese to compose a poem. So, understanding the Japanese tone is more important than learning each word.
When you get a basic drift of how the Japanese language flows, you can embark yourself on learning the grammar of the language. Again take this sportingly. Cover as many exercises on the Internet as you can and score yourself. This will do two things – firstly, it will provide you a very interesting way of learning the language and secondly, it will keep recording your progress so that you can later assess how much you have improved in your quest for learning the Japanese language.
